Self tanner provides cosmetic color; sunscreen provides sun protection. Do not mix them together, and never postpone needed sunscreen just to protect a developing tan. The easiest schedule is to complete the tanning product's required stages before your outdoor plans.
Which situation are you in?
- You are planning the tanning session
- Choose a time that accommodates application, development, and any required rinse without conflicting with outdoor activity. Complete those stages according to the selected product—not a universal overnight schedule.
- The tanning process is complete
- Use sunscreen on exposed skin as directed before outdoor exposure. Continue its reapplication instructions, including after swimming or sweating where specified.
- You need to go outdoors before the tanning process is finished
- Prioritize sun protection, protective clothing, and shade. Accept that the cosmetic finish may change rather than delaying protection. For your next application, choose a different tanning window.
A darker-looking tan does not mean a higher SPF
Do not transfer an SPF claim from one product to another or infer protection from a bronze appearance. The American Academy of Dermatology's self-tanner guide recommends continued sunscreen use and identifies broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher.
Keep sunscreen at its intended strength: do not dilute it with tanner, moisturizer, or oil. Apply and reapply the amount specified by its own instructions; do not reduce coverage to avoid rubbing a cosmetic tan.
A practical body-glow plan
First plan the activity: a commute, outdoor workout, pool visit, or beach day. Then fit the optional tanning session around it. This puts the unavoidable protection step first in your planning, even when tanning happens earlier on the calendar.
The current 2Bmagic Express product page states that the product is not sunscreen. Follow its package for drying, development, and rinsing, and use a separate sunscreen for protection.
Common questions
Can I apply sunscreen under self tanner?
Do not assume a tanning formula is designed to be applied over another product. Schedule a clean-skin tanning session separately rather than removing needed sunscreen while outdoors.
Does every self-tanner need a rinse?
No single routine fits every format. A product that directs a rinse and one that is designed to stay on must be treated differently. Follow the exact formula's directions.
Can I skip sunscreen if the tan already looks dark?
No. Cosmetic depth is not a measure of UV protection.
Can I use the same body tanner on my face?
Only use a tanning product on the areas its current package allows. Do not assume that body directions authorize facial or eye-area application.
Plan the next step
Read swimming after self tanning or working out after self tanner for schedule examples. To compare cosmetic textures, open gel versus cream.
